Hi friends! Today, I want to share with you a little bit about my story and how I got to where I am today. By sharing this part of my story, I want to inspire you to follow your heart no matter what situation you’re currently in in life so that you can be your best self and live your life the way you want to.
I started my photography business freshly out of high school after taking my first photography class at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. If you’re in Montana with a love for photography, I highly recommend taking classes at this school because it completely changed my life! I took the basic photography class, basically just because I wanted to learn how to use my camera. I remember traveling back home and feeling so inspired that I created my first Facebook page and made it official! Sure – I was nervous starting this new journey in my life. After all, I didn’t really have a solid portfolio yet and I didn’t really know how to market myself. I decided to push past the fear and start offering complimentary sessions to friends and shorty after that, I booked my first ever client! I have to send a huge shoutout to my mom for sending this couple my way because they loved my work so much that they decided to hire me as their wedding photographer! I had no idea that my first-ever clients would even consider me to shoot their wedding, after all, I was still so new to photography. To this day, that wedding gallery is still one of my all-time favorites. I was so lucky to be blessed with such a sweet couple!
While I was trying to grow my photography business over the years, I was working two other jobs. My photography business was doing well, however, I didn’t have the time to truly focus on it and give it my all. For any of you other entrepreneurs out there, you know the struggle! I realized that working those two other jobs was taking time away from me being able to grow my business and my relationships with my clients. I felt overwhelmed and tired.
About a year and a half ago, I finally had the opportunity to really dive into my business and I couldn’t be more thankful. That is when I moved to Malta, Montana. I went from a city with over 100,000 people to a town with around 2,000 people. It was definitely a huge adjustment, especially bringing my business to a small town, but it was so worth it. Moving really pushed me to figure out what I needed to do for my business and I’m thankful that I had the time to focus on it because to this day, I’m still going strong! I don’t need another job, I can focus on my clients 100% and give them the best experience possible.
The main thing I noticed from this adjustment in my life was that I continually had things holding me back from being my best self. There were constant distractions and responsibilities I had all while having the fear of quitting two stable jobs to do something I loved. My message to you is that anything is possible if you trust your gut and go for what you’re dreaming of. No matter what ideas you have or opportunities that open up to you, don’t be afraid to give them a shot! I left two jobs that were providing me with a steady income to follow my dreams without knowing whether or not I would succeed. Now that I know I can support myself with doing what I love is the greatest feeling in the world. I hope any of you entrepreneurs out there can read my story and become inspired to follow your dreams and let go of those things that may be holding you back.
